CPLFC win the Kent Schools FA U18 Girls Silver Jubilee Trophy

CPLFC- Priory School 2 (Katie Jackson, Abbey Ingram)

Rochester Grammar School 1

The final was played at Thamesmead Town FC and began with the home school taking the initiative by mounting a number of early attacks, however Rochester stood firm with some stubborn defending. A succession of early corners was met by a Rochester foot or head and in the ninth minute Rochester broke forward with pace and quality and took a one nil lead.

The Priory was stunned. They cleared their heads and continued to press forward, determined to retain the Silver Jubilee Trophy, but a break through was becoming increasingly difficult to find. The Rochester keeper made a fine save from Glancy, and Howe and Keable failed to hit the target or had efforts blocked. Ingram took many dangerous corners but the Rochester defence, was marshalled by the impressive Clarke, was not breached. The last noticeable effort of the first half came from Priory Captain, Perkins, unfortunately her long range shot was swatted away by the keeper’s feet.

The second half continued in the same format with CPLFC Priory launching attack after attack, but unable to even the score line. Torrey put a couple of free kicks over the bar and Keable efforts lacked power. Further goal bound attempts from the team in pink and black were again blocked or saved. As Priory pushed forward Rochester did create another counter attack, but the final shot lacked power and was comfortably saved by Duffy.

In the last few minutes Merricks cross was inches away from Keable, and King’s left foot strike went a yard wide with the Rochester number 1 rooted to the spot.

However in the last minute of the game the ever enterprising Glancy put in a cross from the right and Katie Jackson, on as a late sub, drove the ball home, 1-1. The Priory team, coaches and supporters were ecstatic- Rochester was distraught.

During extra, inspired by her goal Jackson went on marauding run after marauding run down the left, whipping in crosses and trying to get a shot at goal. Midway through the second half of extra time Perkins played a through ball to Jackson. The ball bounced and the number 15 headed it past her opponent only to be brought down. PENALTY!!

Ingram stepped up, composed herself as the tensioned rose, and smashed the ball into the roof of the net.

Final score, 2-1 to the CPLFC- Priory School, Silver Jubilee Cup Winners 2009-10, second year running.
